A Brief Detour
Bob woke up one morning in Juneau with intense pain from his ribs, so off we went to Bartlett Hospital for x-rays and a prescription for real painkillers.As we drove looking for the hospital, we stopped outside what turned out to be a physicians building. Proving that Alaskans are not unlike residents of Maine, who only answer what you ask of them, we recorded the following exchange in asking for directions:
“Excuse me, is there
an emergency room here.”
“No.”
“Could you tell us where there is one?”
“At the hospital.”
“And where is that?”
“Over there” pointing to a building a block away.
“No.”
“Could you tell us where there is one?”
“At the hospital.”
“And where is that?”
“Over there” pointing to a building a block away.
Good thing no one was bleeding!
